Polycarbonate is a polymer with numerous
identical units of bisphenol A which are connected by carbonate
–linkages. To transform it into the desired shape and finish, it is melted and
forced through a die or in a mold.
Polycarbonates are processed through the
following main processes:
(1) Injection molding. The polymer is melted and pressed in to a mold. The
hot polymer is cooled to take the shape of the mold. This process is mainly
used to manufacture single-end products.
(2) Extrusion. In this process, the polycarbonate product is melted and
pressed continuously through an opening which is referred to as an orifice. This
results into a molten polymer which takes the shape of the die. This method is
used by most polycarbonate manufacturers to produce large sheets and profiles.
The Polycarbonate
Corrugated Roof sheets are commonly used in most glazing applications
since they have a number of benefits. These include:
1.
Cost
effectiveness
There are very many variables which include
maintenance cost, initial installation cost and the aspect of time. Normally, polycarbonates
are more expensive than most glazing materials. This implies that the initial
capital for the project will be higher. But what makes it cost effective?
A quality polycarbonate sheet will last for
more than ten years while still in good condition and shape. Unlike other
plastics which can hardly last for more than 2 to 3 years. Therefore, with
polycarbonates, it’s possible to save costs in the long run. Of course, this
will translate to more profits.
2. Durability and strength
These glazing panels can be used for
virtually any application. They can withstand harsh climatic conditions with
fluctuating temperature, resistance to various chemicals and abrasion. They can
withstand high magnitude of impact. These are some of the reasons why they are
used to construct hurricane barricades. In such environments, it is virtually
impossible to use certain products such as glass or acrylic.
3.
Design
and surface finish
The Polycarbonate
Corrugated Roof sheets
tend to combine different properties such as energy saving and better light
diffusion properties, energy saving and moderate light transmission etc. The
custom made panels whose properties can be manipulated to suit the desired
application are also available.
The YUEMEI
Polycarbonate Corrugated Roof sheet is an example of a polycarbonate product which blends both the
embossed texture and the corrugated structure. That is, as much as it has
enhanced strength due to the corrugated structure, it can also diffuse light
efficiently.
